Medicine Hat College: “Get Ready to Start Your Life!”
A 2014 graduate study found that 98% of students at Medicine Hat College (MHC) were satisfied or very satisfied with their education – the highest rate in Alberta. With a strong ESL program that prepares students for a wide range of affordable academic programs; supportive advisors who are invested in student success; and a collaborative environment that promotes health, well-being, and innovative education, it is easy to see why students choose MHC.
Exemplary Academic Preparation and Support
ESL programs are offered every semester with flexible intakes and program lengths. The ESL program has five levels and students at the highest level can take one career class concurrently. Upon graduation, they are eligible for admission to the majority of the college’s programs. MHC is committed to keeping class sizes small so students can benefit from the individual attention of experienced, TESOL-certified instructors.
“We have a more intimate environment that allows students to transition into the North American teaching style,” shared Interim Manager Tafadzwa Bamhare. “We give a lot of personal attention.”
Student support services include pre-arrival preparation, personal counseling, free airport pick-up, homestay placement, and 24-hour emergency services.
An Affordable Education
MHC helps students make the most of their money. Students value the extremely affordable tuition in addition to the low cost of living in Alberta. MHC is one of the only institutions to offer flexible payment options, which allow tuition payment in installments. Scholarships are offered for top athletes in sports such as soccer. Students planning to transfer to a four-year university save significantly by starting their education at MHC.
“[MHC] has the lowest crime per capita in Alberta,” added International Student Recruiter, Saurabh Vashisht. “It’s a very safe and friendly destination – with a good quality of life and very affordable housing.”
A Wealth of Academic Opportunities
Many ESL graduates go on to matriculate at the college where they can choose from five categories of programs: certificates, diplomas, applied degrees, bachelor’s degrees offered in conjunction with Alberta universities, and university transfer programs. According to the 2014 Graduate Survey, a whopping 92% of graduates are employed after graduation.
While at MHC, popular areas of study include business, IT, environmental science, visual arts, social work, criminal justice, and education. In the health sciences, physical/occupational therapist assistants and nurses are in high demand. Aspiring entrepreneurs benefit from the resources and guidance offered at the Entrepreneur Development Centre.
MHC in Latin America
MHC is committed to diversity and has established connections with Mexico. A growing exchange program with ITESO in Guadalajara allows students to do university coursework and study Spanish abroad. The college’s mission is to expand its international reach through further partnerships in Latin America and invites prospective students to learn more about how MHC can be an asset to their education!
