Foxcroft Academy: Two Centuries of Excellence

Established in 1823 in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, Foxcroft Academy continues to uphold its standards of excellence in secondary education. Hosting more than 450 boarding and day students, Foxcroft is known for its rigorous, college-preparatory academics as well as for nurturing a tight-knit community of students who embrace the arts, athletics, community service, and the natural world around them.

Knowledge is Power

With a longstanding mission statement, “Knowledge is Power,” Foxcroft maintains a robust track record for getting students admitted to top universities. The academy offers 130 academic courses, including up to 21 different Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Foxcroft’s passionate teachers instill in students a lifelong desire to learn by encouraging hands-on education and offering technical classes such as welding, automotive repair, and web design.

Foxcroft has recently become the first US high school to sign an articulation agreement with five US universities, thus ensuring acceptance to one of these universities upon graduation. The school continues to adapt its curriculum to prepare all students for a successful college career after Foxcroft.

A Global Community

Foxcroft students hail from 13 countries. International students entering the academy are welcomed by a two-week International Preparation Program over the summer, and English language studies continue throughout the year.

Assistant Head of School for External Affairs, Chris McGary stated, “Our resources provide students with the ability to be successful no matter what their English capacity is, no matter what their academic desires are.” The school also offers evening study hall programs and tutoring.

Embracing Technology

All students receive an iPad, which serves as an integral component of Foxcroft’s teaching methods. “Students use the iPad in every imaginable capacity, whether it’s to chat with their parents back home or putting together a presentation for their US history class,” explained Mr. McGary.

Pursuing Extracurricular Passions

With 23 varsity athletic teams, sportsmanship is encouraged at Foxcroft, where coaches promote the academy’s traditions of hard work, respect, and teamwork. Students participate in clubs, community service, and outdoor activities such as river rafting and skiing. Foxcroft also provides students with the tools necessary to pursue their passions in the arts and music.

Mr. McGary concluded, “We want the students engaged. You are coming to a community that wants you to be part of it.”
