Hotchkiss School

Academic Excellence in an Idyllic Environment

The Hotchkiss School was founded in 1891 to prepare young men to attend Yale. Since 1974, the school has been coeducational, but continues in the college preparatory tradition with 100% of graduates matriculating from some of the world’s most prestigious universities.

A Green Campus

Located in Lakeville, Connecticut, the campus is situated on over 800 acres of woods, wetlands, and two lakes (one of which is the deepest in Connecticut). Environmental education is a large part of the curriculum – with AP Environmental Science, Stream Ecology, and Limnology among the extensive course offerings.

Globally Minded Education

International education is integrated into the classroom experience and students themselves come from 34 different countries. Foreign language instruction is offered in seven different languages and students have the opportunity to spend a semester off-campus in locations such as New York, Italy, or China.

Tradition and Values

Back on campus, community spirit is strong and many traditions, such as campus-wide athletic and trivia competitions, are a central part of the Hotchkiss experience. Both inside and outside the classroom, the school lives up to its mission to “develop in students a lifelong love of learning, responsible citizenship, and personal integrity.”
