Language and Cultural Immersion & Baccalaureate and Graduate Study at Missouri Western State University
Missouri Western State University (MWSU) has a strong, student-focused Intensive English Program (IEP) that includes engaging classroom study taught by outstanding faculty members and extensive cultural immersion through a wide variety of off- and on-campus experiences. Classes are kept small in size to give each student individual attention. IEP courses (Listening & Speaking, Composition & Grammar, Reading, and Writing) are offered at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels.
MWSU has been selected by many Brazilian students, including those from the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program (BSMP), and by students from over 36 countries.
Some of MWSU’s international students come only to study English, some come only to seek baccalaureate or graduate coursework, and many come for both. With strong programs in business, science, computer science, mathematics, graphic design, cinema, convergent media, and engineering technology (among others), MWSU is a university of choice for students from many countries.
The university is in the heart of the US – about a half hour from the Kansas City International Airport and under an hour from the center of Kansas City. With a metropolitan population of over two million people, Kansas City provides access to the benefits of a major city. St. Joseph, the home of MWSU, has a population of 77,000 and access to many restaurants, museums, theaters, and a symphony.
MWSU’s campus is located on 700 acres with multiple ponds and park-like beauty. Campus housing includes both typical residence hall rooms and suites with kitchens and common living areas.

“My experience in Missouri Western was one of the best in my life. I met a lot of good people who helped me and took care of me. I had a warm welcome since I arrived at the airport. It has been a year full of support and satisfaction. Here you are not just one more student.”
