If anything can be certain about the future of the University of Nebraska—Lincoln (UNL), it is that the influence of technology will continue to profoundly alter not only how the university expresses itself, but how it interacts with the world. Creative challenges abound in the emergence of these new mediums of expression.

The Digital Arts Initiative is a collaborative effort among faculty from the Department of Art and Art History the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, and the Glenn Korff School of Music—providing interested students from all majors hands-on experience in applying current technology to the arts.

In-class instruction, blended with hands-on learning experiences allow students to enjoy one-on-one interactions with UNL faculty as well as collaboration with other students in directed projects and activities.

Yale School of Drama
Internationally Renowned Excellence in Theatre

Internationally Renowned Excellence in Theatre

With alumni such as actors Meryl Streep, Lupita Nyong’o, and Liev Schreiber; designers Riccardo Hernandez and Monica Raya; and playwrights Tarell Alvin McCraney and David Henry Hwang, Yale School of Drama has a reputation for nurturing accomplished early-career theatre professionals in all disciplines.

As a graduate professional conservatory, Yale School of Drama trains students in every theatre discipline. Students work with internationally renowned theatre practitioners and have numerous opportunities to work in their discipline, with approximately 45 plays produced annually among the Yale Repertory Theatre, Yale School of Drama, and Yale Cabaret.

Approximately 18% of the School of Drama’s 200 students are international, and 92% of all students receive financial assistance.

The Master of Fine Arts Degree

Yale’s highly selective three-year MFA program, admits 65 new students per year and combines rigorous coursework with hands-on learning. Students must apply to a particular department: acting, design (set, costume, lighting, projection), sound design, directing, dramaturgy and dramatic criticism, playwriting, stage management, technical design and production, or theatre management. The School also offers a one-year technical internship program.

Yale’s own theatre company, the Yale Repertory Theatre, provides MFA students unique opportunities to work collaboratively with guest artists, faculty, and other students in a full season of professional theatre productions. The School of Drama produces student-directed productions of new and classic work, at various scales of physical production, including the annual Carlotta Festival, presenting new plays by the three third-year playwrights in rotating repertory. In addition, Yale Cabaret, is an entirely student-run theatre, producing a different play every week in a flexible basement theatre, giving students an exploratory outlet to manage their own theatre and participate in creative projects of their own choice.

Students interested in application details can review the School of Drama’s admissions website, which includes FAQs, as well as videos of department chairs discussing what they seek in applicants and students talking about their experience at the School. Instructions about applying for financial aid are also available.

In-person auditions are required for actors, and final candidates in other departments are invited to New Haven for interviews. Yale provides invitation letters for the B-2 visa application. Since travel to the US can be expensive, international acting students who are unsure whether they have sufficient fluency in spoken English may submit a pre-screening video recording for review by the admissions committee, who will advise applicants whether or not an audition is recommended.
