Academics and Affordability on a Global Scale
Choosing Central Michigan University (CMU) is choosing to pursue excellence in one of the institution’s nationally acclaimed programs across the undergraduate, master’s, specialist, and doctoral levels. Whether through its traditional or online Global Campus, CMU offers students an affordable, exemplary academic experience.
With more than 20,000 students on its serene campus, and an additional 7,000 students enrolled online, CMU is among the nation’s 100 largest public universities. As a large Research 2 university, CMU still has a low student to faculty ratio of 20:1. This offers a fantastic opportunity for students to build relationships with professors as mentors and also opens the door to more research partnerships. Hailing from all 50 states and 66 countries around the world, this diverse student population adds dynamism to the CMU community.
A whopping 92% of incoming freshmen receive some type of scholarship or financial aid at CMU. There are scholarships specifically geared toward international students, as well as other scholarships, on campus working opportunities and assistantships that make CMU one of the most affordable accredited institutions.
More than 1,000 international students are welcomed into the university each year and many come through the English Language Institute (ELI) which is structured as a Bridge program, allowing students to master English while completing a degree program. Students also have access to English language partners, tutoring, assistance with time management and writing skills, career services, academic advising, counseling, and much more to ensure a successful transition to life in the US.
CMU offers more than 200 academic programs across both its traditional and online offerings and boasts some of the highest-ranked programs in the US. It was ranked the “Best Undergraduate Neuroscience Program in the US” by the Society of Neuroscience in 2013, the nation’s leading SAP University Alliance Program with the most TERP10 Certifications, and among the “Top 100 Engineering Programs” in 2015 by U.S. News & World Report. These highly acclaimed programs are reasons why the school boasts a greater than 90% job placement rate for students post graduation.
The Future of STEM
With a USD $95 million Biosciences Building scheduled to open in 2017, CMU is clearly committed to meeting the escalating student demand for these top-ranked STEM programs. The instructional learning and scientific research space will encourage opportunities for collaborative research and allow the university to continue to establish itself as a leader in human and environmental health.
“The Biosciences Building will also help attract leading researchers and scholars to the university that will contribute to the future needs of our students and faculty,” said CMU President George E. Ross.
With top-ranked academic programs, excellent post-graduate job placement rates, and cutting-edge facilities, CMU is dedicated to providing students the best education possible within a flexible, affordable framework.
“I am an engineering student at CMU and I am privileged to be a Chippewa. CMU offers very high quality education programs and diverse course options outside your program of study to help enrich your overall knowledge. I have received different awards at CMU and working opportunities as well. The community at CMU is very welcoming and friendly. CMU does make the difference.” – Roberto Herrera Lopez, Mexico
