Johnson & Wales University: Experience Makes the Difference
For over 100 years, Johnson & Wales University (JWU) has offered innovative education, integrating arts and sciences studies with industry-focused learning and diverse, experiential opportunities.
JWU is a private, nonprofit institution with four campuses: Providence, Rhode Island; North Miami, Florida; Denver, Colorado; and Charlotte, North Carolina. The university offers a respected online program as well.
Popular programs include Business, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Physician Assistant Studies, Engineering, Nutrition, Education, and Design.
Experiential Education is a new ‘hot’ topic on the education scene, but at JWU it has been the model for more than 100 years. Work experience is woven into the curriculum through real-world class projects, industry-specific learning labs, excellent career advising services, and experience and networks of JWU faculty.
More than 4,200 students participate in internships in nearly 2,000 companies worldwide. In 2014, the National Society for Experiential Education awarded JWU the prestigious William M. Burke Presidential Award for Excellence in Experiential Education.
“Our model offers an optimal blend of intellectual development, industry-focused education, résumé-building work experiences, community and leadership opportunities, and an uncommon depth of career services,” said Director of Caribbean and Latin American Relations, Victor Silva. “Experience is the difference – our students are uniquely prepared for shifting industries and the flexibility to pursue varied career paths and entrepreneurial ventures.”
JWU is committed to accessible, student-centered education. Because of this, more than 92% of its students receive scholarships and grants from the university. Designated international student scholarships are available, from $1,000 to full tuition.
Students enjoy the small class sizes, experienced faculty, access to a personal academic advisor, language learning programs, and the support of International Student Services. Many international students choose to transfer to JWU after completing a portion of their studies in their home countries, taking advantage of liberal credit transfer policies.
Because JWU has four campuses, students are able to choose the right campus for their career goals. Each campus offers residential halls, a variety of athletic programs, and student clubs and organizations. Students can easily transfer between campuses to maximize their studies and career opportunities.
