Immerse Yourself in Language Study in Sunny Southern California

At California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), students in the English Language Program dive into life in sunny Southern California, nurtured by an energetic language program to help them meet their academic and personal language goals.

The English Language Program

“Our program is motivated by a focus on maximizing learning opportunities for students,” said Senior Program Coordinator Eyad Al-Fattal. “We want to motivate students through cultural exposure and rewarding personal experiences while improving their academic English abilities. This works best when they build memorable experiences together.”

To meet these goals, the ELP offers six ability levels in its intensive English program, all with small class sizes, personal attention focused on students’ goals, and a broad array of student services and support.

Completion of Level 5 qualifies students for admission to the university without taking the TOEFL exam. For students who need more support, Gateway USA offers English instruction along with immersion into American culture and the California lifestyle to facilitate the transition to academic study.

Certificate and professional programs offer short term study options and professional qualifications, including teacher training and many other career-focused curricula.

Students love San Bernardino for the sunny Southern California weather and the variety of things to do. Beaches, mountains, and deserts are all an hour away from campus. The cost of living in the area is affordable, enabling students to participate in ELP-sponsored weekend trips.

Student Life

Language learners get the most out of their studies when they are actively engaged in community and adventure. Because of this, the ELP hosts activities including hiking, camping, kayaking, and rock climbing in nearby National Parks, surfing, and group trips to cultural events like Los Angeles museum trips or the LA County Fair.

ELP students can also participate in the dynamic campus life, with opportunities from athletics to music and arts in a wide array of student associations.

Students have an array of choices for accommodations, including on-campus housing, apartments nearby, or a university-run homestay program with family meals included.
