Located in the cultural hub of Chicago, Northeastern Illinois University is celebrated as the most diverse public university in the Midwest. Northeastern’s 10,000 students are shaped by the university’s commitment to experiential education, passion for academic advancement, 16:1 student to faculty ratio, robust student support, and extraordinary campus.
The School for the Advancement of English Language and Learning (SAELL) offers engaging coursework in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar skills in four different learning levels.
SAELL is the only US program that utilizes the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which is an assessment of foreign language proficiency used internationally.
Graduates of the SAELL program are prepared for academic success, whether at Northeastern or any other university they choose.
The staff at SAELL know that experiences make the difference in academics and in language learning. Because of this, experiential learning, community, and an introduction to the rich history and opportunities of life in Chicago are an integral part of language study through the Chicago Experience curriculum.
Northeastern’s commitment to diversity and inclusion makes the campus an extraordinary place to live and study, and has resulted in an official designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution. International students hail from 102 countries worldwide, with Latin Americans making up a third of the student population.
The Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs offers a dynamic set of services, specifically focused on ensuring that all students feel welcome and supported. The Latino/a Resource Center hosts a wide array of programs and events each semester.
From classroom to community, Northeastern prides itself on supporting students’ passions and goal fulfillment.
