The English Language Institute (ELI) at the University of Nebraska-Kearney (UNK) welcomes students from around the world to be part of its safe yet dynamic, student-centered institution.
ELI students take courses designed on an intensive immersion schedule of twenty hours per week. The comprehensive program includes courses in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while focusing on grammar difficulties and vocabulary expansion. Students are tested to determine the appropriate level of study and to allow instructors to individualize the student’s program of study.
ELI students also participate in the Conversation Partners and Conversation Table programs as well as the International Friendship Program (which links international students with caring local families to share cultures and help improve English communication skills).
Furthermore, ELI students have access to all UNK services and facilities, including the $6.5 million Wellness Center that just opened in 2014. Additionally, students have full access to the recreation facilities that include badminton and basketball courts, a swimming pool, and an indoor track. Other student services include counseling, health care, the library, Learning Commons (tutoring), restaurants, and cafeterias.
UNK quickly transforms nearly 7,000 students from across the globe into a close-knit, supportive community of friends; it is a place you will forever call “home.”
